If it ain’t broken, then don’t fix it…

…or you’ll just mess everything up.

My Dad probably has this perspective - not for all things, of course. Just for this certain thing. And I think, I’m kinda getting it too. And again, for this certain thing ONLY.:P

Anyway, Ma’s take on this is different.
Fix it before it gets broken, so you don’t have to deal with the mess, bigger mess later. If you’ve asked me a few weeks back, I would 100% agree with Ma. But now, nah-uh (for THIS thing), so here’s why.

I woke up this morning, like any ordinary day. Kinda happy that I wasn’t woken by the light hitting my face (because it has been like that for most of summer). I noticed that it was raining, really hard. When I went out of the bedroom, I saw water (lots of it) dripping from the ceiling. Part of the hallway was soaking wet.

Yes, it was the damn ROOF. The roof that got “fixed” over summer (for no reason, well, there is but you know what I mean).

I called my mom and told her about the problem (the problem that wasn’t supposed to be there) and she asked me to dry the floor (to
try to dry the floor), lay big plastic bags, put rags and basins.

I got pissed, I just woke up, and I get welcomed by this dripping water, ruining the wooden floor. You know how wood is when it gets soaked. But what really pissed me off is that our roof before it got fixed, never leaked at all. Bad trip.

My mom got the roof fixed over summer- that’s what I thought. Come to think of it, there isn’t really anything to fix because it ain’t broken. I didn’t know they were going to replace the whole thing, and I didn’t think it would cost so much.

According to Ma, the roof was getting old and all-rusty, I didn’t see that and I doubt that my mom has seen it too because she has never gone up there. But I know for a fact that it’s really old, because it’s the same roof since our parents have the house built- that’s as old as my brother, 25.

The rainy season has also started, and it was a good call from mom having it fixed, it was about time. They tried to fix it, but when it rained, it leaked again so I had to hustle and put all the stuff in place. They fixed it again. Good thing, they’ve finally got it, no leaks. And if there were any leaks, I’m gonna unleash the monster in me and let the fixers cover the holes with their hands even if it‘s raining. I’m not gonna do that, but I have imagined myself, in some alternate/parallel universe, doing that. Haha

From this experience, I wanted to say that I did learn something, but I’m quite sure about that. It was a good call and I appreciate that my mom thought of it and prepared ahead of time.

Although Charles is a man of few words, this time, he had something to say:

‘Pag hindi sira, sirain. ‘Saka mo ayusin. That actually kind of made sense. Haha:)
