Go Green Archers!!!:)

D-L-S-U! Animo LaSalle!

Aww. I miss
. A lot.

UAAP. Cheer. Crowd. Players. Fans. 3 points. Fastbreaks. Fouls. Turnovers. Free throws. Final Four. Championship. Game. Basketball. - I miss it all.

I was so excited for last weekend because finally, it’s the opening of the UAAP Season 73. LaSalle is the host for this season, coinciding with the centennial celebration next year. From what I’ve read, National University (NU) was supposed to be the host but DLSU made the swap.

I’m not a die-hard fan, but I do love watching LaSalle play. For the past few years that I’ve been watching them play, the Green Archers always have a way of surprising the spectators. They do something, spur of the moment, when you least expect it. Sometimes, they can pull it off and sometimes, it just doesn’t work out but it is still surprising. It may not always materialize into winning, but sure enough, you’d know they fought real hard.
DLSU vs ADMU, Season 70

Last season was definitely a heartbreaker for LaSalle. They didn’t get into the Final Four. I think it’s the first time in UAAP history, in 24 years since DLSU became part of it. That basketball season, the game play was different. The belief, the faith, the Animo, it felt like it wasn’t there.

That’s why this season, I’m excited - excited for a comeback. I’m really hoping that they’d get into the Final Four. It’s a very young team, they have 7 or 8 rookies and only a few have been playing for the past few seasons, and it wasn’t as great. But as I have said earlier, the Archers have a way of surprising us and last weekend was a really good one.

If you’ve watched the opening game last Saturday, DLSU vs. UP, you would know who won - Archers. I was really surprised, and clearly I have underestimated the team. Sorry!

It was a really good game for the Archers. I forgot the score but DLSU’s up by double digits, less than 20 or 20? Anyway, they really stepped it up. It was a huge comeback from their sorry loss against NU (which cost the Final Four slot) last season.

I’m proud of the new captain and my FILDLAR seatmate, Simon Atkins for stepping it up and being a leader. 20 points -16 in the first half alone, 3 point shooting, steals. Whew, what did he eat for lunch? First time I met him was in class, my friends are going crazy over him, and I know lots of people wanted to trade places with me, but I can’t ‘cause we’re seated alphabetically, so I’m stuck. He’s always absent on Thursdays, of course. But he’s fun, always goofing around in class.

Everyone stepped up too. I can’t remember everyone, but here’s some that stuck - Villanueva, Webb, Vosotros, Marata, Tolentino, de la Paz, Ferdinand. Everyone on the court did a good job of maintaining the lead. Hope it works out for this young team. They might surprise us again next time. Go Green Archers!
